Sean started his musical journey at the young age of 4 when a neighbor gave him his first ever piano lesson. Ever since then Sean has continued to develop a further love and appreciation for music, learning percussion for elementary school band, and organ, guitar, and voice in college. Sean graduated from Augustana College (Rock Island) with a BA in Music and Psychology. While at Augustana Sean was able to perform with the Augustana Symphonic Band and the Augustana Symphony Orchestra, touring to the American South, California, Spain, as well as concerts in and around the midwest. Sean also performed heavily with the percussion ensemble and other small groups on campus.
After graduation Sean moved to Evanston, IL working as a private piano teacher, and teaching music to young children in early music intervention classes. In 2021, Sean became a Board Certified Music Therapist, and is working on completing his masters of music therapy through Augsburg University. Music continues to be a daily aspect of Sean's life, performing with several orchestras in the Chicago area, doing sessions, and continuing to learn and play music for fun. Sean is excited to continue teaching lessons and fostering a love of music in the next generation! While Sean's background is primarily classical, he loves all styles and loves to help students learn as many styles as they can.
Sean's teaching style is very person-centered, believing that learning does not happen if there is not fun and understanding for the student. He takes time in lessons to connect with the student and see what they want to learn and what they need to be the best they can be!
"My favorite piece to listen to is probably Claire de Lune, though it was hard to choose! I like Debussy's compositions as they are a great mix of relaxing to listen to, and fun to analyze and play. I also played a Bossa Nova arrangement once with a jazz combo group which was really fun!"
