A cross-trained vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, Jess Brooks is devoted to providing a creative approach to music education.
Brooks graduated from Elmhurst College in 2019 with a Bachelors Degree in Music Education. During her time at Elmhurst, Brooks was the vocalist for the internationally acclaimed Elmhurst College Jazz Band. Throughout her collegiate career, Brooks has shared the stage with many of her musical heroes, including Dee Dee Bridgewater, Andrea Bocelli, Byron Stripling, Linda Eder, and Ryan Truesdell. In 2019, she won a DownBeat Student Music Award in the Jazz Solo Voice category. Her passion for performing has led her through musical tours in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Poland, the Netherlands, Italy, France, the Czech Republic, Mexico, and across the United States.
In addition to a career as a performer, Brooks has been managing acclaimed guitarist Mike Stern since the beginning of 2020. She also is a synesthetic visual artist and graphic designer and it brings her great joy to create holiday greeting cards for Lessons By Brooke! Outside of her creative pursuits, Brooks is passionate about family and child care, and spends her days as a nanny for three energetic, musical girls!
“I believe that music is the most joyous vehicle for the true meaning of life: Love. Music is the universal language and gives the unique gift of cross-cultural connection, enables us to transcend barriers, and teaches us that there is no limit to what we can do or who we can be. In lessons, while my students develop their technical skills, they also discover how nurturing their own personal relationship with music can open doors in front of them, and within their own selves.”
"My favorite concert I’ve ever been to was Cecile McLorin Salvant in the Netherlands. The room was so quiet you could hear a pin drop~ everyone was in awe of her singing. She drew everyone in with her stunning voice and story-telling ability."
