Where Do I Teach?

Chicago

Isabel Jayne Mancl, soprano, recently sang with the Croatian Opera Academy in Novi Marof, Croatia as Gretel in this past summer’s production of Hänsel und Gretel. Last year, she performed with Netherlands Lyric Opera Festival in their scenes program where she performed as Mademoiselle Silberklang in Mozart’s Der Schauspieldirektor, and Nanetta in Verdi’s Falstaff. During these programs she furthered her understanding of the voice and worked toward artistic and vocal authenticity. Earlier, she performed as Musetta, La Bohème, and Barbaina, Le nozze di Figaro, with Opera Aeterna in Chicago. Isabel completed her vocal performance degree at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. While there, she performed as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, Amy in Adamo’s Little Women, and developed her knowledge of music theory and vocal pedagogy.

Outside of her operatic repertoire, Isabel has a passion for musical theater. She has performed in productions of Titanic: The Musical, Big Fish, Side Show, and Little Shop of Horrors, and has participated in the creation of new plays and musicals written by Chicago playwrights. While she is not studying the intricacies of the voice and storytelling, she enjoys relaxing with her puppy, going to dance classes with friends, reading, and is learning how to sew. Isabel began taking private lessons when she was 11 years-old and has never stopped! She continues to strengthen her foundational technique and vocal ability through her own individual study so she can better find freedom, authenticity, and beauty in her sound. She works to guide her students toward the same goals to best express the subtleties of emotion within music to inspire, engage, and connect with the audience.

“If I could play any instrument, I would want to play the accordion! The sound is so unique, and the instrument requires so much coordination to do well, coordination that I do not currently have. I am also from Wisconsin, so I have a soft spot for Polka. Every time I hear an accordion, I’m happy.”
