"My middle school band director was a big inspiration in my life. Mrs. Steinke would play a new instrument every day. She would play piano for the jazz band, then play various instruments during concert band rehearsal. This made me want to explore instruments other than just the saxophone. I remember everyday Id ask her if I could pick up one of the instruments she had out and play it, and she’d always let me. Although I was not very good at these instruments, these little moments allowed me to explore myself as a musician, which has made me a more open musician. Mrs. Steinke also helped me find the love for performing, specifically giving me a featured piece in jazz band, in which we opened for the Glenn Miller Orchestra at the Arcada Theater. I am so thankful to my middle school band director for nurturing my creativity and for giving me endless opportunities. She helped guide me to becoming the educator, musician, and human I am today. Thank you, Mrs. Steinke!"
